Provincial Council of the International Literacy Association
2025 Update
Happy New Year! As we venture into another year, I would like to extend my warmest wishes for a joyful ad fulfilling 2025. I’m thrilled to welcome our new members to our council and celebrate the growth of our vibrant community dedicated to advancing literacy across the province of British Columbia.
So far through the membership draws, we were able to give away four free online memberships to introduce educators to the opportunities provided to members of the ILA, such as journals available for purchase, online and in person professional development opportunities.
This year, the B.C. Literacy Council will continue to build on our shared mission of promoting literacy by supporting innovative, impactful projects that make a difference in our communities. The wealth of the research, professional learning and opportunities to grow professional networks continues to be inspirational. Although the once iconic in-person conferences have been limited since covid, there are still a wealth of online professional development opportunities available.
All members of the International Literacy Association in British Columbia are automatically BC Literacy Council of the ILA members (BCLCILA). As always, the best way to draw in new members is through personal connection. I recently had the opportunity to connect with Gloria Ramirez in Kamloops and have gotten to know Guofang Li on social media, and Joanie Crandall via phone. I’m happy to connect via phone, Zoom, or in person with individual members or small groups at your request. Feel free to contact me. I have retired from the public school system and now have flexibility as an educational consultant.
