BC Literacy Council ILA – Call for Proposals Continues 2025 – 2026
When I transitioned from my work as a school principal to an educational consultant, I took a hard look at the things that I would let go and the things that I would continue. Promoting literacy learning is something that will continue as long as I have something to contribute. I joined the International Literacy Association in my first year of teaching and have served at the local, provincial, national, and international capacity on executive committees, interest groups, hiring committees, and providing professional development. My background knowledge, professional network, and lifelong friendships grew along with my increased capacity to more effectively teach young literacy learners, education students, and practicing educators.
Volunteer organizations have fallen on hard times as COVID and increased demands and stressors have been heaped onto the shoulders of educators. I am hopeful with the increase in the membership in the British Columbia Literacy Council over the past year. Our aim is to provide supports for members of the B.C. Literacy Council (of the ILA) to have like-minded professionals to discuss literacy learning and funding for literacy endeavours. My personal goal is to build the capacity of the organization to allow younger literacy educators to assume leadership roles in the organization as part of their professional and personal learning.
This year, the B.C. Literacy Council will continue to build on our shared mission of promoting literacy by supporting innovative, impactful projects that make a difference in our communities. To that end, we invite you to submit proposals for literacy-focused projects that align with our commitment of fostering lifelong learning and equitable access to literacy opportunities.
